Easter Egg Maracas: These DIY Maracas are such a fun and easy Easter craft for the kids!

The Easter Egg Maracas are simple, but allow enough creativity that a wide age range can enjoy making them, and use supplies that you probably have laying around the house.

Easter Crafts: Easy Easter Egg Maracas

Every year, after Easter has come and gone, I continue to find plastic Easter eggs laying around my house that my kids collected during community egg hunts and from their Easter basket. I try to save as many as possible to reuse the next year but really, how many extra plastic Easter eggs do you need? These maracas are a creative way to get an extra use out of them…and they’ll keep the kids entertained for hours.

When I made these with my two kids, we had a little fun raiding my craft box for creative Washi tape to use. Each kid was able to pick out several colors and patterns that they loved, allowing them to make the maracas uniquely theirs.

If you don’t have Washi tape, you can find an entire assortment at Walmart or a craft store but colorful Duct tape works just as well for this craft. (Also, Washi tape addiction is a real thing! I may or may not have a slightly embarrassing amount but it’s all just so cute and I know I’ll use it eventually!)

We used popcorn kernels as the noise-maker inside the egg but feel free to get creative here. Rice is also another option, along with dried beans or anything else you may have laying around. Different things create different sounds so it’s also fun to experiment and test different things here.

The kids really enjoyed the entire process of making these, from picking out the color of their egg to the decorative tape to adding the popcorn kernels and even put on a little concert after to show off their new instruments.

Since these are so easy to make and the supplies are cheap, they’re a great Easter craft for classrooms or other Easter parties too. I think we may invite some of my kids’ friends over and make them again!
